TiVoTokens have arrived Ever tried to recommend a TV programme to your friends but struggled to remember the time or the channel...or even the name of the show?! Tired of sitting at home with your TiVo wishing you could somehow share the joy of TiVo with your friends? Have you ever browsed TiVoCommunity and wondered just what programmes Mr Tickle has selected for his 158 Season Passes? Well, TiVoTokens is what you have been waiting for! Using TiVoWeb, TiVotokens is an add-in module that allows you to send programme recommendations to your friends. On receipt of your email your friends can either click on the URL to set their TiVo or paste in the simple code. TiVoTokens does the rest! Life Before TiVoTokens...
How does it work? TiVoTokens is an installable TiVoWeb module which is easy to add to your existing TiVoWeb setup. If you don't know what TivoWeb is then we suggest that you read this first, as you will need to install TiVoWeb before you can use TiVoTokens. There are four files to the setup of TivoTokens; the module itself; your configuration file (contains your nickname, fullname, email address and smtp server details); your address book (the names of the people you want to email your TiVoTokens to); the nifty TivoTokens graphic image file. Once installed you can directly enter a token into the TiVoTokens module front page or lookup tokens and optionally send them to your friends via email. The lookup routine uses the familar search interface from the main TiVoWeb project. What does a token look like? 1050445800-E4 Note: The token contains the time the programme starts and the channel call sign because the numeric ID for this varies from TiVo to TiVo. Installing TivoTokens Anonymous TivoToken Data Sharing (Privacy Information) When you share a TiVoToken with a friend we have designed TivoTokens to share this token with us so that we can chart the most popular tokens/shows. There is no conspiracy here or plans to turn this in to a profit making project. TivoTokens is free and will stay that way. The information we collect is as follows: Token Code, Channel Callsign, Title, Duration, UKTivo flag, DTivo flag, IP Address, TivoTokens software version, Timezone offset and an entry timestamp.You can verify this by viewing the source code. We respect your privacy and if you really don't want to take part in this fun aspect of TivoTokens then you can opt out by placing the following line into your tokens.cfg file: allowanontokensharing=0The default for this feature is turned on. Supported TiVos TiVoTokens has been designed and tested only on UK Tivos running TiVoWeb 1.9.4. It uses code from the main TivoWeb project so it should work for owners of US TiVos, but at this time we aren't sure.
